"Night John" (1996) Based on the novel written by Gary Paulsen, starring Carl Lumbly + Allison Jones + Gabriel Casseus. Imagine if you didn't have the power of reading... we tend to forget how important it is sometimes.
What a great surprise. Legendary Giuseppi Logan releases his first recording in 45 years (on Tompkins Square Label). Logan only recorded two albums in the mid 60's with Don Pullen, Eddie Gomez and Milford Graves for ESP. He returns with his distinctive tone and intact approach to all 8 songs (5 original compositions and 3 standards) as if he picked up where he had left off over 40 years ago. Also He was recently featured in the documentary film "Water in the Boat" where his street performances provide the soundtrack to the film. Enough said, it's just nice to hear him play again.
The pianist Mary Lou Williams would have been 100 years old today. She was a great performer, composer, educator and humanitarian. I always admire her strength in playing and swingin' left hand! Happy birthday.
Dorothy I. Height was an administrator, educator and activist. She has given leadership to the struggle for equality for all people and played a key role in the civil rights movement as the longtime head of the National Council of Negro Women.
